TikTok engagement rate formula

Engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares) ÷ followers × 100, averaged across recent public videos. That is the formula this calculator uses and the follower-based formula teams use to compare creators.

This calculator shows both: follower-based engagement as the headline for cross-platform comparison, plus engagement from actual viewers and view rate, computed from public play counts.

What is a good TikTok engagement rate?

TikTok runs higher than Instagram, so judge a creator against their follower tier, not a single global number. Public industry studies cluster around these ranges:

A creator slightly under their tier's range can still perform if the audience fits your product, and a creator above it can still flop with the wrong audience.

Follower tierTypical follower-based engagement rate
Nano (1K–10K)8% – 15%
Micro (10K–100K)5% – 10%
Mid (100K–500K)3% – 7%
Macro (500K+)1.5% – 5%

Questions

How does Sift calculate TikTok engagement?

For each recent public video, Sift divides likes plus comments plus shares by follower count, then averages the available videos.

Does a high engagement rate mean a creator is right for my campaign?

No. Campaign fit, audience relevance, recent activity, and product suitability still matter on TikTok too.

Can I check a full creator list?

Yes. The next step is a campaign audit that qualifies the list you already sourced before outreach starts.
